Norwich – Ipswich Rivalry Renewed

Eastern Evening News, Friday, June 13, 1988

Top-of-the-table Ipswich Cardinals provide the tough gridiron opposition for Norwich Devils on Sunday.

The Devils received a 54-0 pasting at the hands of the Cardinals last year’s UK American Football League finalists
– on the opening day of the season.

Now in high spirits after a convincing win over the Southend Sabres last weekend, the Devils will be keen to make
ammends for that humiliating defeat.

Last Sunday, Tailback, Tony Ryan scored a hat-trick of touchdowns, plus four conversions, while Devlis’ other
touchdowns came from Steve Playford and Lawrence Walker, Martin Maher also grabbed a conversion.

The Devils welcome back Martin Barrett and Paul Taylor to their ranks from injury for Sunday’s key game, with the
Devils well in contention for a wild card place in the play-offs. Kick off at the Norfolk Showground is 2pm.

Before then, the Norwich Demons take on Ipswich Cardinals juniors at 10am. Last week, the Demons beat Yarmouth
side, North Sea Tigers, 14-0.
