LANCASHIRE 20 – NORWICH 34
Report from First Down Magazine. August 26th, 2001.
Running back Mike Wilson scored four touchdowns as the Devils marched into the division 2 final.
The win set up an all East Anglian final against arch rivals Ipswich.
The Devils started strongly with a 50 yard opening drive which culminated in a one yard touchdown run from running back Mike Wilson. Shaun Norris caught Bailey’s 2 point conversion to put the Devils 8-0 up.
A long pass from Bailey to Norris out the visitors back on the Lancashire one yard line for Wilson to plunge in for his second TD. Jermaine Ramsey this time hauled in the two point conversion to leave the devils 16-0 up at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter the Wolverines closed the gap when Quarterback Adam Purcell found Ian Mullins from five yards out to leave the score 16-6 in the half.
The Devils lead was further reduced when Steve Liggatt caught a 10 yard TD pass from Purcell, following a big kick-off return by Lancashire, to bring the score to within four points.
However the devils were soon back to the Lancashire one yard line when Wilson broke a 40 yarder.
Quarterback Bailey plunged over from the one to regain the 10 point advantage.
Wilson broke another run on the next drive, scoring from 30 yards out to put the Devils 28-12 on top, but Lancashire hit back when Wayne Glover hit Ian Mullins on a half back option for a spectacular 65-yard score.
Still Wilson wasn’t finished, and he scored his fourth TD of the day on another one yard run.
Lancashire managed a safety late in the game to round off the scoring, with the Devils 34-20 to the good.
