In addition to the Devils most recent come and try session last Sunday, BBC Radio Norfolk decided to send over the pool of finely tuned athletes from their Sports Desk to find out for themselves what American football is all about and allow the Devils to put them through their paces with a little two touch run about.
After a coach led warm up they got down to business. Attempting to get to grips with the fundamentals of passing, route running, and pass rushing after the Devils coaching staff quickly assessed that anything too strenuous may result in cardiac arrest for the local Radio celebrities.
Phil assumed the role of Quarterback, due to his recovering ACL injury, showing a strong but sometimes wayward arm and an ability to throw a perfect spiral almost everytime. Something the great Payton Manning always admitted he struggled to do.
So it was left to Jay and Rob to battle it out for bragging rights attempting to either catch or intercept his throws. Typically the competition was fierce between them as it became a battle to see who would actually complete just one catch. Rob finally won that with a speedy run and diving athletic catch before Jay finally managed to pull in his own reception despite tight coverage from a member of the devils team acting as Safety.
The Devils would like to thank Rob, Jay and Phil for coming down, it was a fun afternoon for everyone and we look forward to hearing about it on the upcoming show.
