Devils Youth at Kent Exiles Youth

The Norwich Devils Youth Team traveled to Orpington to play their third tournament of the year at the Kent Exiles and came away with two wins and one loss.

The Devils first encounter of the day was against the Colchester Gladiators. The Devils capitalized on a Gladiators fumble to gain good field position and opened the scoring with a short pass to Scott O’Neill. A Luke Green interception returned for a touchdown saw the Devils lead 12-0 at halftime. In the second half the Devils carried on where they left off. Rory Jones threw his third touchdown pass of the game to receiver George Wynes to make it 22-0. The Gladiators hard work was rewarded when they pulled a score back to make it 22-6. The Devils finished the scoring when Wynes ran in the Devil’s fourth score of the match to make it 28-6.

Game two pitched the Devils against the host team, the Kent Exiles. The Devils initially struggled to get to grips with Kent’s powerful run game allowing the hosts to quickly on their first two drives to gain the lead. The Devils responded with a touchdown of their own on a deep pass play to Seb Gonzalez. Kent finished the half with another two scores to lead at the break. The Devils defense tightened up in the second half allowing only one further score, the offense added a second touchdown when Rory Jones found Jacob Lowe on a deep pass, making the final score 32-12 to the Exiles.

The final game of the day saw the Devils play the Watford Cheetahs. The Devils met the Cheetahs on the opening day of the season and won a high scoring contest. On this occasion the scoring was lower but the outcome the same. The Devils quickly opened up a 12-0 lead with touchdown passes to Scott O’Neill & Jacob Lowe. Just before halftime the Cheetahs halved the lead to 12-6. A close second half saw only one score when Quarterback Rory Jones found George Wynes for his third touchdown pass of the game, the final score 20-6 in favor of the Devils.

The Norwich Devils Youth will play their final tournament of the year at home on the 2nd of August at Jarrolds Sports Ground, Heath Crescent.
