Report by Norwich Devils. June 1st, 2014
The Norwich Devils downed their pads and helmets this weekend to take a trip down the A140 to watch the new boys on the block, the Bury Saints take on hosts and long time Devils rivals, the Ipswich Cardinals.
In perfect conditions both teams played hard entertaining the crowd with a fantastic display of British American football that went down to the wire with the Saints holding off a resurgent Cardinals team to secure victory.
Devils Head Coach Mark Hoskins summed up the afternoon, “I thought it was a great game. It took Ipswich a while to get going and it looked like they might pull it back. The Saints played really well too. They’ll be tough to beat this season.”
When asked to comment on what he thought the players took from the clash Coach Hoskins stated, “The most important thing is that our guys got a good look at what British football is all about. The Cardinals have always had a great game day experience and I thought it’d be good for the team to take a look at what we are striving towards. Hopefully this will inspire the team to keep recruiting and stay focused.” So, does the Norwich head coach miss the derby clashes? “Yes I do. Actually this is kind of hard watching it, I’d really like to be out there on the pitch. I hope to be back with guys soon… but not in the stands!”
